IGL CERTIFICATES

The internationally recognized IGL International Diamond Report (established in 1974) is your diamond's DNA.

It independently certifies your diamond's carat weight, clarity, colour grading, cut and other vital details.

IGL certified diamonds are also laser-inscribed with their certificate number. This is a further security measure to ensure the certificate you receive matches the diamond you have purchased. The laser inscription is discreet and not visible to the naked eye.

OUR IGL CERTIFIED DIAMONDS

The IGL certificate that accompanies your diamond includes information such as:

Cut, polish and symmetry:
This tells you how skillfully your diamond has been shaped from a rough stone. We only accept a minimum cut grade of ‘Very Good’ upwards.
Colour:
Diamonds are graded on a scale from D (best) to Z (worst). We only sell high colour grades, from H upwards.
Clarity:
All diamonds have tiny internal markings called ‘inclusions’. The fewer inclusions a diamond has, the better its clarity. We don’t sell anything below grade ‘SI’ (Some Inclusions).
Carat weight:
This determines your diamond’s size.

You may also see additional information of interest on your IGL certificate, such as:

Fluorescence:
Some diamonds emit a soft glow under ultraviolet light. The less glow, the better the diamond – although you should bear in mind that any fluorescence rated between ‘Faint’ and ‘Medium’ is usually only perceptible to a gemmologist using special UV lighting.

For us, an IGL certificate is a ‘seal of quality’. It assures you that the diamond you have chosen is nothing less than it should be.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

It means that the diamond you are buying has been through a rigorous and independent testing process and the certificate you receive with your jewellery reflects its true qualities.

IGL certified diamonds are also laser-inscribed with their certificate number. This is a further security measure to ensure the certificate you receive matches the diamond you have purchased. The laser inscription is discreet and not visible to the naked eye.

DOES THIS MAKE AN IGL CERTIFIED DIAMOND MORE VALUABLE?

Yes, a diamond that has an IGL certificate is much more valuable and more sought after than a non-IGL certified diamond.

In future, should you need to sell your diamond, the report together with the laser inscription gives any new owner the same peace of mind it gave you when you purchased it.

ARE THESE DIAMONDS CONFLICT FREE?

As with all the diamonds we sell, each one of our IGL certified diamonds is conflict free.

ARE IGL CERTIFIED DIAMONDS ANY DIFFERENT TO OTHER DIAMONDS?

Yes, an IGL certified diamond is exactly what it says it is, whereas when you buy a non-certified diamond, you are relying solely on the retailer’s opinion.

WHY IS AN IGL CERTIFIED DIAMOND MORE EXPENSIVE THAN AN SKD CERTIFIED DIAMOND?

Because the IGL laboratory is international, and globally recognised, whereas SKD is a London-based laboratory.
